So, once To Be True was off at the publishers and awaiting printing, I heard the two words that I had quite honesty been dreading the most in this whole process. Social media.
I had been on Facebook for years, and still had to get my husband to ‘copy and paste’ for me, if it was required.
This world of social media does not need to exist in my tiny basement hair salon, where the only technology that is used is my iPad, for playing background music.
I am a Try-haira-top. So extinct, that you haven’t even heard of it before now.
Panic set in.
Then entered a kind and generous tech savvy friend of mine. A media maven, offering her help, to which I say ‘Yes’!
Which brings us to my ‘Year of Yes’.
I have decided that this year, everything my dear friend Maryanne asks me to do (pertaining to her media marketing plan) I will say ‘yes’.
So, when she wants me to carry two coffee cups into my shop and introduce myself, I say, ‘Yes’. Hey there, nice to meet you!
Let’s not kid ourselves. It is a hell of a lot easier to just say ‘no’ when presented with new situations, and never stepping outside our comfort zone. I mean that’s why they are called as such, and we definitely draw great reassurance from staying safely inside those boundaries.
The ‘Year of Yes’ promises to propel this dinosaur bravely forward, venturing into an unknown new social world they call Instagram. Can I do this?
Yes. Yes I can.
