This title would likely imply that I am going to discuss the write offs I can declare as an author. And, there are many that come to mind like the cost of edits, self-publishing, book fair fees, and many other things that your accountant will want receipts for.

The accountant part is a free piece of advice that I will offer, no charge, no receipt, no tax deduction.

I am actually referring to the write offs that happen when my laptop and I become one, and fall into that dark hole where the only sight I have is tunnel vision. It’s a non-inclusive blissful oblivion that I happily freefall into.

Hours literally go by without an ounce of thought going anywhere other than into the world I am creating.

This blog was close to becoming a victim of the all-consuming abandon that takes hold of me when I am in this state. I had completely forgot all about writing it until today, July 31st.

The quest I am currently on has me sequestered in the 80’s, also known as the best- decade ever! At least from this author’s point of view.

There are some cons to losing one’s self in this zone.

A great many hours go unaccounted for when the author part of my existence steps in.

Life around me still continues, just without my input.

That is until lunch or dinner roll around and my family is desperately looking for something to eat. My pup will stand directly in front of me and it’s not until he barks demandingly that I realize that I have maxed out his patience waiting to be fed.

My husband gently nudges me into the present by supportively asking what he is making for dinner, which means takeout. Because he only cooks toast.

I have concluded that I would be incredibly thin if all I ever did was write.

I would like to go on record that no harm has come to anyone I love because of my addiction to writing fiction. They are mostly just hungry, while my creative appetite is being filled.
